Benefits of CQRS Local for Commissioners

Managing locally commissioned services across GP practices has historically meant using spreadsheets, chasing paperwork, and spending time on manual administration. CQRS Local offers ICB commissioners a better way to manage GP practice claims through a secure, web-based platform that has been purpose-built using feedback from end users to simplify claims management for Locally Enhanced Services and Local Incentive Schemes.

What CQRS Local delivers for commissioners

CQRS Local replaces manual processes with a single, centralised system. For commissioning teams, this translates into real operational improvements:

Reduced administrative burden – role-based access means GP practice and PCN users only access what they need, while commissioners can track and audit claim submissions through a secure central point. This supports robust governance without adding complexity.

Insights – enhanced reporting functionality allows commissioners to view variations in practice uptake across their system. This supports decision-making and identifies where intervention may be required.

Bulk claims management – for schemes involving multiple providers and multiple claims, CQRS Local supports bulk claims processing, reducing administration and improving consistency.

Participation management – features within CQRS Local makes it easier for commissioners to manage which providers are participating in which local schemes, reducing manual tracking.

Collaboration – the platform’s architecture supports integration with other commissioning organisations, if required.

Increased use of the platform

In 2023, £38.1 million worth of claims were processed through CQRS Local which was a 135% increase from the previous year. In addition, 24,569 approved claims were made by users in 2023 which was a 125% increase compared to the previous year.  The number of ICBs using the platform also continues to grow year on year.

User feedback

Commissioners at NHS Suffolk and North East Essex ICB claim they no longer process thousands of emails or manage claims in a spreadsheet which reduces the risk of user errors.

The commissioning team at NHS Cheshire and Merseyside ICB now experience a quicker process for approving claims and understand quarterly spend through setting parameters for generating audit reports.

With localities at NHS Bedfordshire, Luton and Milton Keynes ICB using a slightly different approach for claims and payments, CQRS Local was rolled out to all 94 GP practices. The ICB now has a standardised process with clear visibility of claims.
