For some time, CQRS Local has supported the assignment of a borough or area to a provider. Initially introduced for South West London Integrated Care Board (ICB), this feature has now been extended to all Commissioners.

ICBs within London will use the term ‘Borough’ and ‘Areas’, and those outside of London will use the term ‘Areas’.

Benefits of assigning Locally Commissioned Services to areas

Locally commissioned services are arranged and managed by ICBs through GP practices within their Integrated Care System (ICS). Commissioning services at a place-based level allows them to be tailored to the specific needs of local communities within defined geographic areas. The Area feature in CQRS Local supports this approach by enabling commissioning within localised regions.

ICBs offering additional locally commissioned services within place-based areas empowers teams to commission services based on population health data, service usage trends, and community feedback.

Place based areas facilitate stronger multi-agency collaboration between NHS organisations, local authorities, voluntary organisations, and community groups, supporting co-commissioning and co-delivery of services.

Aligning commissioning with local priorities and integrating services helps to reduce duplication, streamline healthcare pathways, and maximise resources.
